This school-year role is similar to a paraprofessional position—supporting outdoor learning, academic activities, play, safety, and social connections in a small, innovative, outdoor-based program. Hours are flexible (2–30/week), and you can choose mornings, afternoons, or a couple of full days each week. Perfect for anyone who loves kids, enjoys working outside in all weather, and wants hands-on experience in education, special education, psychology, or outdoor learning.

Let's talk if you would like to work full time. 40 hours/week would be $40,000 - 45,000/year, with up to $60,000/year including bonuses to offset health insurance.

The learning assistant role is similar to a paraprofessional, but only for one child. The individual will work primarily in the Forest School Program at Marshall School. We can structure the hours around your availability (and extend the position to include summer and home programming if you prefer). The individual must love a school environment, and be enthusiastic about working outdoors in all weather with kiddos! Scheduling possibilities during school hours:
2-30 hours/week.
Twice/week from 7:45am-1 or 3:30pm and/or
M-F mornings (7:45-9:15am and/or 7:45-1) and/or
M-F afternoons (1 or 2:30-3:30pm)

Locations: Within a 10-minute drive of UMD, CSS, Downtown Duluth
School Year Location: Primarily At The Forest School at Marshall (school year weekdays): Provide special education programming to facilitate integration into a mainstream elementary school class in our region's pathbreaking outdoor-based school. Facilitate and support outdoor education, academics, play, and building independence with activities of daily life.
Summer Location: Sometimes At Hartley Nature Center Summer Camp (summer weekdays): Provide similar support to facilitate participation in outdoor-based summer camp programming.
Flexible Days & Hours, scheduled around your availability & preferences

3-5 hours/day, 1-5 days/week on weekdays and/or weekends

Locations: Within a 10-minute drive of UMD, CSS, Downtown Duluth
Location: Primarily At home (after school/camp & weekends): Support the child at the Walsh Family home with programming similar to school & camp when they are not in session, plus initiative with keeping child's things and environment clean and organized. Both parents are professors at UMD, live adjacent to Hartley, and engage in lots of nature-based fun.
Summer Location: Sometimes At Hartley Nature Center Summer Camp (summer weekdays): Provide similar support to facilitate participation in outdoor-based summer camp programming.
